Cortijo Puerto el Peral

The surroundings

Almogía and surroundings: El Torcal, Antequera and Málaga

In the heart of Andalucía, between the mountains and the coast

Cortijo Puerto El Peral lies near Almogía, a white village in the hills north of Málaga. The landscape is rugged and green at once: olive trees, holm oaks, limestone ridges and, in spring, flowering plants. Stay on the estate and you mostly hear birdsong. Set out, and some of the finest places in Andalucía are within an hour's drive.

El Torcal de Antequera

One of the most remarkable nature reserves in Spain: a limestone plateau worn by wind and rain into towers, passages and columns. The waymarked trails are manageable for less experienced walkers too. Early morning or late afternoon gives the finest light.

Antequera

A historic town with a Moorish fortress, Renaissance churches and the dolmens of Menga and Viera, prehistoric burial monuments that, together with El Torcal, form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Caminito del Rey

A walkway built along the sheer walls of the Gaitanes gorge, high above the Guadalhorce river. Tickets are limited and must be booked online in advance.

Málaga

The city of Picasso, with the Picasso Museum, the Centre Pompidou, the cathedral, the Alcazaba and a lively old town full of tapas bars. The beaches of the Costa del Sol are close by.

Further afield: Granada, Córdoba and Ronda

The Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Córdoba and Ronda with its bridge across the gorge all make rewarding day trips. Alhambra tickets should be booked well ahead.

Walking, cycling, riding and golf

Various walking paths start directly from the house and lead into the surrounding hills. The area lends itself to walking, mountain biking, horse riding and climbing. Restaurants and golf courses are within easy reach.

Getting around

A car is the most convenient way to explore the area, but taxi and transfer services are also available.
